MEET THE SPOTLIGHT "AaNala"

What inspired you to pursue plus size modeling?
I was always classed as a “pretty face” and told that I would look “so much better” if I lost weight. I have a medical condition and not many people know that, but folks are always quick to judge.  I have struggled with my self image since childhood and being East Indian and looking completely different to other women of my race was very tough growing up and still is to this day. I came across some very confident plus sized women and wanted so much to be like them.  These women inspired me…and in turn when I started doing photo shoots and fashion shows, I was inspiring others!  I no longer wanted to hide and be ashamed…I wanted to be proud just like them.

How many years of experience do you have modeling?
I only have about 2.5 years of experience.  Because of my height I am very restricted, however I continue to do test shoots and network when I can as the Petite Plus market is still very new and has a way to go.  I’m hoping it flourishes one day just like the Plus market has over the last few years.
What are your goals as a plus model?
I want to continue testing my limits in front of the camera and eventually be able to model clothing or jewelry for up and coming designers for in-store advertising, catalogs or on their websites.   All I need is a designer or a store to give this Petite Plus girl a chance ;-)

Who /What is your inspiration?
I have many inspirations. There are women in the mainstream who I see on TV or online modeling for stores where I shop, to plus size designers, to the women I have met in person and had the privilege of working alongside.

Who are your favorite Plus size designers/Retailers?
I am not a big spender when it comes to clothes so I go for affordable retailers.  I like to shop at Ashley Stewart, Fashion to Figure, and once in a while I’ll find something great in the clearance racks at Torrid.  I do love the items higher end plus designers put out also but I just can’t see myself spending that kind of money unless it’s an “I HAVE to have it” item!

What is your favorite fashion Trend this year? (Optional)
I love High-Low skirts and dresses as well as the Peplum tops that I am seeing more and more in the stores.  They are flattering and look good on almost anyone.
 Favorite quote of all time
You must be the change you wish to see in the world” – Mahatma Gandhi

Do you have any upcoming events we should look out for?
Not yet, but I’m hopeful that something will come up J

Spot Light Model " AaNala"

Spot Light Model of the month "AaNala"

Ever since I was a kid, I was self conscious about my body. I was always told that I had a pretty face, but needed to lose weight in order to actually be noticed! My first photo shoot was simply for fun and for a boost of self confidence with a group of ladies in the California Bay Area. Not until my third photo shoot, did I feel comfortable in front of a camera and realized that I love being there. I love posing, I love feeling beautiful and confident in my clothes and skin, but most of all I love that I am reaching out to other women who once felt the same way as I did and helping them also come to the realization that every person is beautiful in their own individual and unique way and we should embrace and love ourselves for who we are. I am thankful to the many women out there who unknowingly helped me get to this level of confidence by loving themselves no matter what. It is more important to be healthy internally than to be obsessed with losing weight. I just want to do my part, along with all the other beautiful Plus role models out there, to help less confident women feel better about themselves.

Stay tuned for the "Meet the spot light" post later this month to learn more about AaNala

Swim Wear Confidence PT1

Hello and happy Friday readers, This post is kind of a big deal to me because as you can see I'm wearing a swim suit with no wrap or shorts, even pants Yes I have worn pants to the pool because I was just that self conscious about my body with exposing too much. Honestly all my life when it came to swim wear I never felt comfortable, But times have changed and there is a movement happening right now in the plus size community. Plus size women are making a lot of noise and is being recognized, breaking boundaries and letting the world know that we can be sexy and fashionable. I'm ready to join the movement so I starting in this dressing room at walmart this week, Me and a few friends will be taking a trip to Miami in July and of course will want to visit south beach so I needed something that I would be comfortable in, I feel in love with this pin up style swimsuit for $30.00, I have plans to dress it up with red and really bring the pinup out so be on the look out for the updated photos in July. I also wanted to put the spotlight on some of my followers showing off their swimsuit confidence, Check them out and show them much LOVE!!! Thank you ladies :)

SPOTLIGHT "Pandora Lynn" CHATS WITH PSB

PSB:What inspired you to pursue plus size modeling?

Pandora Lynn:I think just the appreciation people started showing me when I started to appreciate myself was what led me to pursue modeling. I was approached about it on several occassions before I started working as a model. After my first show, I could not deny that there is something people see in me, and I dont want to hide that. Its confidence, love, faith, and hope that comes from my soul that really makes a difference when living in this world, and people can see that.

PSB:how many years of experience do you have modeling?
Pandora Lynn:I have modeled for just about two years now.
PSB:What are your goals as a plus model?
Pandora Lynn:I want to continue to do runway, and hopefully get into commercial, and more print modelling. I would like to be more in the entertainment business as an actress, as well as the music industry. More than anything I just want to keep inspiring women of any size to be happy with who they are; because beauty opens doors, but only virtue can enter. I feel like I represent that in any picture, or show that I do.
PSB:Who /What is your inspiration?
Pandora Lynn:My mother is my inspiration. She taught me the value of a human being. She taught me that no matter if you agree with what they do or who they are, they are still here, and everyone has a heart. So, you love them in the midst of anything. You dont have to put yourself around them, or be hurt by them. But, you never turn someone away who needs love, even if it means just giving a friendly smile. I think that plays a big part in being successful as a Plus Size Model. I run into so many walks of life each and every day. It is about standing strong in who I am, and who I want to be. Whether its in front of the camera, down the runway, or just embracing people at an event; it is something I have to value in myself, because that is the only way anyone else will value me too.
PSB:Who are your favorite Plus size designers/Retailers?
Pandora Lynn:I am a fan of the boutique "The Ultimate Dressing Room" in Houston, Texas and "N-V-US Fashions" in San Antonio, Texas. I like to shop at DOTS, Lane Bryant, Rainbows, and Ashley Stewart. I just started working with "Lady L Designs" as one of her first plus size models for her plus size line she added to her petite line. She is a wonderful designer and I am so excited to travel down that road with her.
PSB:What is your favorite fashion Trend this year? (Optional)
Pandora Lynn:The trend for me right now is short skirts, fitted tops, and a trucker hat (worn backwards or frontwards).
PSB:Favorite quote of all time
Pandora Lynn:"Sometimes this world will turn your life upside down, so you can start living right side up."

PSB:Do you have any upcoming events we should look out for?
Pandora Lynn:My first photoshoot with Lady L Designs is coming up this week, so pictures will be posted on facebook soon. Also, I will be modelling for Clear Hair Products at a hair show in Rosenberg, Texas. I am hoping this summer fills up with more events to come.

MEET THE SPOTLIGHT "Pandora Lynn"

I am an up and coming plus size model from Houston, Texas.   My favorite quote is, “Beauty opens doors, but only virtue can enter.”
I have always been interested in fashion and beauty since I was younger.  However, I grew up in a very small town of Louise, Texas where being full figured was not really seen as being beautiful.  I was told for so long, “Oh, you have a pretty face.”  It wasn’t enough for me.  I wanted people to see what I felt on the inside; which was a confident, beautiful, curvaceous young woman.
I have been in the business going on two years now. I have walked in 8 fashion shows, including designers such as; "Dress Barn", "N-V-US Fashions", "The Ultimate Dressing Room", "Ashanti Nikki Fox", "AVENUE", and "Curvy Collection." I have been featured in 5 magazines, icluding; "BBW Magazine", "Plus Size P.O.W.E.R. Magazine", "SCREAM Magazine", and "D Magazine." I was on the cover of "Large in Charge's" Anniversary Issue. I was in a music video with Zaena Morisho. I have also been created into a comic book character by Red Skye Comics; "Lydia St. Claire, The Vampire Slayer." I have been a hair model for Farooq CHI and SHINE Hair Salon in the height, Houston, Texas. I was the 2nd runner up for Miss Plus America 2011 and  I won PSP's 2011 biker babe photo competition.

I recently started my own business called, Arts of Utopia.  It is a business that offers Photography, Makeup, Facepainting, and many types of art that is imagined by you and created by me. Arts of Utopia is made to be exactly as it's name provides: "A form of art created by your own perfect thought of how it should be."

I really do look forward to making any and every customer's dream a reality. I am just very intrigued about "ART" in itself; any form of it, from modelling, photography, makeup, facepainting, to a mural on the wall. Everything tells a story and in that moment as an artist, I become part of someone's story; part of their life. And it is another world that can be enjoyed in so many ways because its a perfect world to someone. I could not have made a better choice by choosing to create "Arts of Utopia." I have so much support and love from the people around me that I feel like I cannot fail. Its a journey I am willing to risk, and sacrifice for because doing this is my "Utopia." It is my perfect world!

I love when I walk into a room, and people actually notice my curves. They look at me and love me because they see a beautiful woman who loves herself.I think that my best curve is my smile. I believe a smile can make someone's day, and has the ability to change someone's life.
